Rosmarinus officinalis, commonly known as Rosemary (Thalisabatri in Tamil) is an aromatic, exotic evergreen herb which has multiple culinary and cosmetic uses. The herb has been hailed since ancient times for its medicinal properties too. Not only does it have a wonderful taste and aroma, but also a wealth of beneficial health effects if regularly added to our diet. 

Rosemary is a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, Rosemary was traditionally used to help alleviate muscle pain, improve memory, boost the immune system, improve blood circulation and promote hair growth.

The leaves – both fresh and dried ones are used to flavour foods such as soups, sauces, salads, stuffing’s, deserts and meat. When added to roast potatoes with garlic, they are truly yummy!

Here are some health benefits of Rosemary - known in Tamil as Thalisabatri leaves which is used in Siddha Medicine for treating respiratory disorders.

Add rosemary to the bathwater after a physically demanding day to soothe sore muscles and relieve tension. Add 50g to a litre of boiling water, cover and let it steep for 15 minutes before adding to the bath.

The most common usage is Tea from the dried Rosemary leaves. Add 2 gm of the dried leaves to a cup of boiling water. If you drink it regularly, you will know how refreshing it can be!
