Am so sick and tired of seeing women walking around in
public exposing their thighs and legs, and sometimes their full behind thinking
it’s ok because they are wearing leggings/tights as they call it. Well, it’s
NOT okay, and you really must go get some clothes on, Please.
Just because something is trendy doesn't make it right. Leggings/tights are not the same as salwars, trousers or jeans.
Look down at yourself - the purpose of salwars, trousers or jeans is to hide our nakedness. Leggings and Tights fail to achieve this objective. With the flimsy and see-through material you are wearing, you look like as if you have been dipped in paint! Although your skin may be sheathed, we're seeing quite a bit of you.
The most common justification I hear is they are easy to wear and are comfortable. Well, so are your bathroom chappals, but you manage to keep them at home!
Women need to realize that tights and leggings are not equivalent to wearing salwars, trousers or jeans. Tights and leggings are two very similar types of clothing. Both are very tight, form-fitting pants, but, they are not intended to be worn alone. They are recommended to be worn UNDER another piece of clothing such as a dress or skirt.
They are similar to sweat pants which you would wear to a workout, but they are not supposed to be worn like jeans in public everyday! This is a bizarre trend followed by young girls and even women over 40 in Chennai today! Has no one ever told you that they look ridiculous and disgusting?
Just the other day, we were stuck in traffic (which is quite normal in Chennai) and my car was just next to a stout woman on a scooter. She looked a disgusting sight with the kind of clothing she was wearing – a light coloured leggings/tights and a short kurta over it. Every man’s eyes were on her, including that of the Traffic constable! Even the school children crossing the road were staring at her. I don’t blame them.
It’s ok to dress fashionably, but there are limits. We digested when you started parading the streets wearing the night gowns which are supposed to be worn only in the night! We also digested what you did to the dupatta, one of our traditional garments which was actually meant to cover the head and/or any inadvertent cleavage and the contour of the bosom. The use of it has undergone a metamorphosis over time, and it is now draped just over one shoulder, around the neck or even one arm! Some of them look like scarf’s and netted/curtain material which do not serve the purpose for which they are actually meant for!
But this trend of leggings and tights worn to work and elsewhere in public has just gone too far.
I want to ask the men this. What is wrong with all of you? Can't you see how sickening this outfit looks on any woman? What prevents you from advising your daughters, wives, sisters and girlfriends against wearing this bizarre costume in the name of fashion!
All I want to tell women is this - clothes must be worn to protect our modesty and not lure sexual and curious attention from strangers. When you dress provocatively like this, how do you expect men to behave well always? I find the heated debates on television channels whenever there is an untoward incident towards women, quite amusing for the fact that everyone including the television anchors talk about the liberty to be as they like, but expect the men to behave themselves properly!
If you want to earn respect and look dignified at the workplace and in the society, the way you dress truly matters. As the saying goes, “Good clothes open all doors” (ஆள் பாதி ஆடை பாதி ).
